The SAT or Scholastic Assessment Test is a standardized test, which was introduced in 1926. It is not just one of those English Proficiency Tests required to be taken by the candidate in order to study Abroad, but a rigorous procedure to test the intellect of a student. There are certain parameters in which it is quite different from the other tests.

Here are some common misunderstandings about SAT :

 

 

  • MAKES YOU ELIGIBLE FOR EVERY FOREIGN UNIVERSITY

 

Unlike other tests like IELTS & TOEFL, SAT focuses in getting you admissions to US colleges majorly and some universities in Canada, the UK, and Singapore that too for Undergraduate Courses. For SATs, it is already presumed that the candidate has a good command over English. Hence, the assessing pattern is quite different from the tests organized for non-native speakers of English.

 

  • SIMILAR PAPER PATTERN AS OTHER ENGLISH TESTS

 

This is the most incorrect notion about SAT. It does not comprises of four sections Reading, Writing, Listening and SPEAKING. Instead the SAT exam is divided into three sections which are: Verbal Aptitude, Quantitative Aptitude and Essay Writing. The duration of this test being 3 hours and 50 minutes is also different from others. The scoring pattern also varies as a student receives a score out of 1600. The scoring of SAT essay is evaluated out of 8. SAT Scores are valid for 5 years if there hasn’t been any change in the paper pattern of it.

 

  • SUBJECTIVE QUESTIONS

 

SAT has a mixture of objective and grid in questions with only the ESSAY part in writing section being subjective. There are total three parts of the test, Verbal, Quantitative, and Essay; Of which, Verbal has two sub-parts, and so does the quantitative section.

 

  • COMPLEX MATHEMATICS

 

Mathematics section comprises of questions from Algebra, Graph Interpretation, Data Analysis. There is no room for complex Integral Functions or Trigonometry in SAT’s Maths Section. Major focus is on reasoning in mathematics.

 

  • SPEAKING SECTION

 

There is no room for impressing the interviewer here by your vocal skills. What you have performed in your SAT exam is the determiner of your eligibility and will provide you with your deserved scores as there are only three sections that too they are to be performed only on paper.

 

  • GUESS WORK

When a candidate approaches the SAT, there can be certain question which you may not know the answer to, or would be confused about, or it could be that the there would be no more time left. In such cases, there are potentially three ways: panic, leave it blank, or guess. So, what should be your course of action? Yes, guessing it would be the best option as you practically have nothing to lose. There is no  penalty for every question you get wrong. So, it will be considered wise to attempt it anyway.
