SAT or Scholastic Assessment Test is one of the recognized\ntests conducted for admission in various universities and colleges after\ncompletion of high schools. Various institutes in the Unites States of America\nand other countries use the SAT score to grant admission to students in respective\norganizations. In order to fulfill their dream of studying in a more culturally\norganized environment, offering more to learn and explore, various students in\ndifferent countries sit for the exam every year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Skills in question:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

SAT tests the basic skills of a high school student which\nincludes math, reading and writing. To learn better and adapt in a more\nfruitful way abroad, these skills are highly important for any 11th<\/sup>\nor 12th<\/sup> grade student. The reading section includes thorough reading\nof passages and based upon that, answering questions which are usually in\nsentence completion form. In the writing section, the candidate is expected to\nwrite an essay and answer few questions around grammatical accuracy. Mathematics\ntest, on the other hand, involves questions related to basic mathematical\nconcepts like algebra, probability, geometry etc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pattern of exam & Scoring:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 3 hour (with optional 50 minutes) long SAT exam consists\nof following sections:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mathematics, Reading and Writing are tested with an optional\nessay question. Let\u2019s analyze all the sections separately:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mathematics<\/strong>– This section includes a total of 57\nquestions and candidates are allowed to use the calculator for 37 questions.\nQuestions revolve around problem solving, data analysis & algebra and\nscores range from 200-800. Time allotted for this section is 80 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reading-<\/strong> In a time span of 65 minutes, candidates\nhave to attempt 52 multiple choice questions based on reading of short or long\npassages and sentence completion. The score range remains 200-800, combined\nwith writing section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Writing<\/strong>-Writing section tests a candidate\u2019s hold on\nidentifying errors and proper usage of grammar. A total of 44 questions are\nasked which are required to be attempted in 35 minutes. The score range remains\n200-800 as well, combined with the reading section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last question is a 50 minute long optional essay which is\nnot scored but requires the candidate to analyze evidence and evaluate the\ngiven argument. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, in total, there are 152 questions scored out of\n1600.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

General know-how of SAT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

SATs are\nconducted 7 times in a year in the months \u2013 March, May, June, August, October,\nNovember and December.The dates and other guidelines are well written on\nthe College Board website which is easily accessible. It is noticed that\nmajority of students appear for SAT twice in order to improve their score which\nactually happens. But, it should be avoided. Students should be equally\nconcerned about their application and other requirements of the college because\nthey also play an important role in granting admission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SAT Coaching is not quite popular but gaining pace gradually. A number of coaching institutes have recently added SAT Exam Preparation<\/strong><\/a> in their course structure.
