UK Work Visas For Foreign Students. All You Need To Know
United Kingdom is all set to increase the already high number of immigrants with the introduction of new changes in the UK work visas for foreign students. With an aim to increase the number (current being 460,000) by approximately 2 lakhs in next 10 years, the Britain government has come up with this initiative and announced about its introduction next year so that candidates, universities & colleges and stakeholders have ample time to prepare themselves accordingly for the next year.
Previously, International students could stay and work for just 4 months and the ones at 27 universities on a pilot scheme could get 6 months. As per the new visa norms, without any limit of the number, students from different countries including India will have an option to work or look for work for two years after graduating as compared to the previous plan introduced in 2012. Primarily an important announcement for the students planning to enter the UK in the upcoming 2020-21 academic year, the changes are not applicable for the students who graduate and have their leave expired before the introduction of this route.
Some important factors to be kept in mind about the news visa:
- It will be a 2 year long and separate visa.
- Payment of a visa fee, new application along with immigration health surcharge will be required for this visa as well.
- The route in no way counts towards the settlement, being non-extendable.
- Graduates who meet the requirements and have an appropriate job in hand have the option to switch into skilled work which is a popular route towards settlement.
The changes have been introduced taking into consideration the various factors considered by students around the globe while making a choice of studying abroad. Job availability and an opportunity to work is one of the important factors among those.
A continued push from both – education and business sectors had been made on the government for relaxing the rules for international applicants. An encouragement to the idea was also given by various cabinet members as well. The new government has finally changed the rules with an aim to attract the “best and brightest” of skilled immigrants. Fortunately, the announcement has been well received by the respective sectors. It is said that this new introduction will put the UK back into the position of being one of the most preferred destinations of students to work. It is also being said that the campaign for this change had been running for the last 5 years.
India, being a country where a prominent number of students plan of immigration every year shall be benefitted most with the introduction of the new policy. It will not only help them gain global work experience but also manage their expenses or investment in the best possible ways.
