Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India exam that is conducted to test the students of their understanding of various engineering and science subjects. The GATE exam is conducted by 7 IITs along with Indian Institute of Science on the behalf of Dept of Higher education, MHRD. Whatever scores a candidate gets in the GATE, it reflects his performance. 1. What is the age limit to appear for GATE exam?

There is no age limit for appearing in the GATE examination. Anyone can appear for the examination, as long the required criteria are met.

2. How many times can I appear for the GATE examination?

One can appear for the GATE examination as many times as they want. Only the main criteria have to be met by the candidate and he is good to go.

3. What is the pattern of the GATE examination?

GATE test is conducted online and the paper has both the numeric type as well as multiple choice questions. Numeric answers are answered with the help of virtual keyboard. Test consists a total of 65 questions making a maximum of 100 marks.

4. How many papers are there in the GATE exam and what is the duration of the whole exam?

There are no multiple papers in the GATE exam. It usually consists of a single paper that lasts for a total duration of 3 hours.

5. What are the educational requirements for appearing in the GATE examination?

Students with Bachelor’s degree in engineering, pharmacy and master’s degree in science, maths, Computer applications etc are eligible to appear for the GATE examination. Candidates who have higher qualification from organizations like UPSC and AICTE are also eligible to sit in the examination.
